Adrenaline-fuelled racing could be making its way to the city of Canning after a development application was lodged for an indoor go-karting facility in the heart of the Welshpool industrial area.

PowerPlay offers indoor electric go-kart racing on unique two-level tracks, including ramps and bridges, with its first centre opening in Joondalup in 2020 followed by centres in Bibra Lake in 2022 and Malaga in 2024.

It uses modern electric go-karts that provide instant power and acceleration without exhaust fumes.

The karts can drift, spin. and reach speeds of up to 70km/h, although they don’t go that fast around the tracks

In its application to the city, the proponent said it sought to convert two warehouses on the corner of Welshpool Road and Pilbara Street into an electric go-karting venue featuring tracks, electronic amusement games, and a mezzanine party zone.

Construction of the building has already begun.

If approved, the centre will open from 9am-9pm seven days a week, with up to 80 people at any one time, including staff, participants and onlookers, and an expected average of 264 patrons a day.

Epic plans for opening of first Victoria’s Secret in WA
Perth will finally get its own taste of the magic Victoria’s Secret has to offer when the lingerie and beauty retailer opens its first WA store on December 12.
There are 25 parking bays on site for exclusive use of the centre.

“We are committed to ensuring that this facility enhances the recreational offerings in the Welshpool area while operating in a safe and responsible manner,” the proponents said in the application.

“We have taken care to ensure that all operational and amenity considerations are addressed to minimise potential impacts on surrounding land uses.”

Chief executive Glenn Macneall has taken part in more than 100 World Rally Championship events and previously said PowerPlay blended competitive motorsports with the thrill of racing, making it accessible to everyone.

“PowerPlay is perfect for anyone who loves an adrenaline rush,” Mr Macneall said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a serial revhead or a karting first-timer, you can join the fun.

“At PowerPlay, we are passionate about what we do. Many of our staff are heavily involved in go-karting and rally motorsports, so it’s about sharing our love of racing with the wider community in a safe, fun and competitive environment.”

Comments on the proposal close at 5pm on Wednesday, December 3, after which the application will go to the City of Canning for consideration.
