ACT Policing’s Inspector Nigel Booth said officers found the boy, who was a pedestrian, had been hit by the car.

Emergency services treated the child at the scene before he was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

He was declared dead a short time later, police said..

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital for observation and remains there.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, the ACT’s second road fatality of 2026, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
